Jon Stewart Accepts Elon Musk’s Terms For Interview — But Rejects ‘Bullsh*t’ Idea He’s The ‘Propagandist’

Comedian Jon Stewart has gladly accepted Elon Musk’s demand for an “unedited” interview, but is calling “bullshit” on the billionaire’s criticism of him as a partisan “propagandist” – reminding his audience that Musk donated $270 million to President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Musk’s offer to do an interview came after an episode of The Daily Show last month, when Stewart unloaded on Trump’s newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Musk, during an opening skit in which he cut his hand open.

The host’s point, at the time, was that DOGE would find more wasted federal expenditure in taxpayer-funded corporate subsidies for the oil and pharmaceutical industries – rather than in the mass lay-offs of government workers.

While Musk suggested he would only appear on Stewart’s show if his interview aired “unedited.” The Daily Show quickly responded via its official X account: “We’d be delighted!”

Stewart responded himself during Monday night’s show, reminding viewers that The Daily Show already airs its in-studio interviews unedited.

“So, sure, we’d be delighted,” he said before turning his attention to Musk’s accusations.

The host reflected that after accepting the interview, he’d noticed that Musk’s enthusiasm seemed to sour when the billionaire later accused him of being untrustworthy and partisan.

“He then said, after saying he’d like to come on, ‘Jon Stewart cannot be trusted,’ and that I am a propagandist and that I am not bipartisan,” Stewart recounted.

“You give me too little credit,” he joked.

Then, taking a direct shot at Musk’s political leanings, he added: “And that I am not bipartisan? Again, the guy who custom-made his own Dark-MAGA hat – that he wears to opine in the Oval Office with the president who he spent $270 million to elect – thinks I’m just too partisan.”

Stewart didn’t let up as the audience laughed.

“I’m really not sure what he thinks bipartisan means,” he said. “But it’s generally not ‘I support Donald Trump. And also Germany’s AfD party.’ That is not bipartisan. That is just the same shit.”

He went on: “So I guess what I would say is this. Look, Elon, I do have some criticism about DOGE. I support in general the idea of efficiency and delivering better services to the American public in cheaper and more efficient ways. And if you want to come on and talk about it on the show, great. If you don’t want to, sure. But can we just drop the pretense that you won’t do it because I don’t measure up to the standards of neutral discourse that you demand and display at all times? Because, quite frankly, that’s bullshit.”

As the audience applauded, Stewart repeated: “You know it, I know it — bullshit.”
