Maggie Haberman Calls Out Trump Officials Attacking Judges Over ‘Conflicts’: They’re ‘Former Trump Lawyers Now Running DOJ’
CNN commentator and New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman told anchor Kaitlan Collins that attacks on judges by President Donald Trump’s Justice Department officials ignore their own baggage.
In addition to Trump’s own high-profile attacks on judges, Trump officials in court filings and media appearances have sought to have judges removed on the basis of “bias” and “conflicts.”
On Thursday night’s edition of CNN’s The Source with Kaitlan Collins, Haberman pointed out that many of the officials criticizing the judges are, themselves, former personal attorneys for Trump who now “run the Justice Department”:
KAITLAN COLLINS: Senior political correspondent for the New York Times, Maggie Haberman. And Maggie, I wonder what you’re hearing from just the White House, the administration in general, and their reaction to this order from the judge tonight, which is keeping this story very much on the front page, which is not obviously where the White House wanted it to be.
MAGGIE HABERMAN: They’re not happy, Kaitlan, as you know, they are certainly not happy about Judge Boesberg, as you know.
I will note that the administration officials who keep saying that the judges all have conflicts are Trump’s own former personal attorneys who are now running the Justice Department. And they presumably have views about all of this as well.
But they’re, nobody wants this, in the Trump administration, to continue. They have tried talking about a number of other issues, tariffs, executive orders about law firms, executive or orders about History and and cultural institutions.
This is not going away. You are correct. This is going to keep it going. Their own reactions are going to keep it going and there is a slow drip drip of questions, primarily about Mike Waltz the national security advisor who started this signal chain, but not only about him, in terms of what was said in it.
