‘Not His Signature!’ White House Doubles Down After Epstein Letter is Published — Insists Trump Did Not Write it

The White House is doubling down on its denial that Donald Trump drew a bawdy picture of a woman and signed it for accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein as part of a leather-bound birthday book.
In a post on X, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed Trump did not sign the photo posted on Monday by House Oversight Committee Democrats and the Wall Street Journal.
“The latest piece published by the Wall Street Journal PROVES this entire ‘Birthday Card’ story is false,” Leavitt wrote. “As I have said all along, it’s very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it. President Trump’s legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation. Furthermore, the ‘reporter’ @joe_palazzolo who wrote this hatchet job reached out for comment at the EXACT same minute he published his story giving us no time to respond. This is FAKE NEWS to perpetuate the Democrat Epstein Hoax!”
Deputy White House chief of staff Taylor Budowich also issued a denial on social media.
“Time for @newscorp to open that checkbook, it’s not his signature. DEFAMATION!” Budowich wrote.
Trump is already suing News Corp, which owns WSJ, for $10 billion stemming from a July 17 story in which WSJ reported on the existence of the letter.
The photo released Monday shows the letter signed simply “Donald.” Budowich compared it to photos of Trump’s complete signature to declare it wasn’t real.
But reporters quickly produced numerous examples of Trump signing only his first name. Reporter Andrew Feinberg with The Independent posted a photo of one such letter, writing, “This letter from Larry King’s estate sold at auction last month. So, maybe not defamation?”
The letter is signed simply, “Donald,” and bears a remarkable resemblance to the birthday letter.
So does another book Trump signed for Epstein — a photo of which was published by The New York Times in July.
“We also learned that Trump inscribed a book to Epstein back in 1997, saying ‘You are the greatest!'” wrote The Times’s David Einrich. “We’re publishing that here, as well as a previously undisclosed photo of Trump with Epstein and James Brown.”
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released the birthday letter to the public on Monday after receiving it from the Epstein estate. Trump has called reports that he wrote the letter, “false, malicious, and defamatory.”
“These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures,” Trump said.
