‘Please Sue Them’: Elon Musk’s Mother Uses Social Media to Ask Son to Sue CNN Over ‘Nazi Salutes’ Segment

Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, made the unusual move of communicating with her billionaire son via social media to insist he sues CNN over “nazi salutes” commentary on the network.

At issue is a controversial gesture Musk made during a Trump inaugural event, which many critics saw as similar to a fascist salute or a “Sieg Heil.” And almost as if by design (wink, wink), a massive political media controversy followed suit (WHO COULD HAVE EVER GUESSED!)

Recriminations of the weird salute and criticism of said recriminations became perfect fodder for the outrage-based political infotainment ecosystem because —that’s likely what the confusing behavior seemed designed to do.

But it came to a head during a CNN NewsNight segment Monday night when Catherine Rampell challenged Scott Jennings to do the salute himself on national television after he defended it. He declined. That clip was shared broadly because, of course, if the salute were not offensive, Jennings would have no issue replicating it. His cool-headed decision not to take the bait undermined his position and all others who’ve defended Musk.

Enter Maye Musk in the chat, who took to her son’s own social media platform, X, to weigh in on the discourse. Maye complained about “so much hatred” she’s received because of the CNN Panel “yelling about Nazi salutes” before politely asking her son to “please sue them.”

In a related interaction, Elon Musk replied to an X user who suggested he sue “Tim Walz and Rachel Maddow” over a similar segment, adding, “The Nazi hoax had gone on long enough.” Musk quoted the post and said, “Good idea.”
