Progressive Media Darling Jumps Into Senate Primary With Colin Allred

Texas Democratic state Rep. James Talarico is reportedly ready to announce he’ll run for U.S. Senate next year, according to Politico.
If so, he’ll face former Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), who announced his candidacy in July.
Talarico “has been considered a rising star in Texas, conducting dozens of national media interviews after he and his fellow Democrats left the state to hold up a President Donald Trump-led plan aimed at netting more Republican-leaning seats,” according to the report.
Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) signed into law the state’s new redistricted maps that are expected to help Republicans win up to five more seats in Congress at the midterm elections.
Texas Democrats have been hoping to flip the red state blue, but Donald Trump secured a firm foothold in the state after winning by more than 13 percentage points in 2024.
On the Republican side, polls show four-term incumbent GOP Sen. John Cornyn trailing MAGA state Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is viewed as a “weak general election candidate,” even though he’s popular with Trump supporters. If Paxton is the Republican nominee, Democrats hope it will open the door for Talarico or Allred to take Cornyn’s spot.
