Senate Democrat Condemns Supreme Court Leak on Fox News, Calls for Prosecution
A Senate Democrat has condemned the leak of a Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn the landmark decision Roe v. Wade and called for the prosecution of whoever leaked it.
Politico obtained the draft decision and reported on it on Monday night. Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday confirmed the authenticity of the draft, condemned the leak and announced an investigation into who leaked it.
Appearing on Thursday on America Reports on Fox News, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) also condemned those who seek to intimidate Supreme Court justices and other public officials. It was reported on Thursday that there’ll be a May 11 march to the homes of the conservative justices – Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito, who wrote the draft opinion.
“I think anyone who is in public life and whether you’re a Supreme Court justice whose under threat, whether you’re some of the people … senators who voted for the impeachment of Mr. Trump whose lives were put in threat, I think that kind of action is outrageous. Either end of the political spectrum,” said Warner. “And we need to do all we can, and if there are more Secret Service or other security entities that need to protect our justices, amen. People should not serve in public life and feel that outrageous extremists on either end of the political agenda suddenly have license to physically, verbally attack public officials.”
Co-anchor John Roberts, no relation to the chief justice, noted the White House has declined to condemn the leak. Warner went in the other direction.
“I completely condemn the leak and whoever leaked it, you know, should be prosecuted,” said Warner. “I do hope your network, if it ends up, and I have no foggy idea who did it, but if it ends up coming out it was leaked by somebody actually from the right-wing of the agenda that wanted to try to lock in these five votes, I hope you’ll continue to express outrage and make sure that person who leaked is fully prosecuted.”
