President Donald Trump’s administration has indicated they may be reviewing the legal status of immigrants who “make light of” the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau took to X on Thursday to make clear that “foreigners who glorify violence and hatred” are not welcome in the country. The message followed Kirk being shot and killed on Wednesday during an event at a Utah college campus.

“In light of yesterday’s horrific assassination of a leading political figure, I want to underscore that foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country,” Landau wrote.

He added that he has directed consular officials to take “appropriate action” and even asked people to share comments making light of Kirk’s death with the State Department.

“I have been disgusted to see some on social media praising, rationalizing, or making light of the event, and have directed our consular officials to undertake appropriate action. Please feel free to bring such comments by foreigners to my attention so that the [State Department] can protect the American people,” Landau wrote.

The administration similarly threatened the legal status of immigrants taking part in pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses.

During the event at Utah Valley University, Kirk was 20 minutes into his event when he was discussing transgender shooters. A single shot rang out, hitting Kirk in the neck. The Turning Point USA founder was 31 and he leaves behind a wife and two children. The shooter remains at large, but the FBI has released a photo of the suspect.
