President Donald Trump’s aides actively considered ending government contracts with Elon Musk’s SpaceX in June amid the president’s feud with his former DOGE chief — a new report reveals.
According to a piece published by the Wall Street Journal Sunday, the Trump administration initiated a review of SpaceX’s contracts with the government to see if there was any waste to cut. Yet the SpaceX contracts were deemed to be too vital to the Defense Department and NASA to slash them.
The review took place after Trump, in a Truth Social post on June 6, threatened Musk’s federal contracts.
“The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump wrote. “I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”
Four days later, according to the Journal, a senior General Services Administration official named Josh Gruenbaum sent an email asking the Defense Department to fill out a spreadsheet with all of its current SpaceX contracts. Gruenbaum also sought the same info from NASA and several other federal agencies.
But the review ended with the agencies determining that the SpaceX contracts were too important to kill.
