Trump Sparks Chants Of ‘Je-sus! Je-sus!’ At Rally With Savior Name-Drop
Former President Donald Trump spurred an evangelical crowd to begin chanting “Je-sus! Je-sus! Je-sus!” after he referenced the Savior’s name in a speech attacking Vice President Kamala Harris.
At a press event and a pair of rallies in North Carolina Monday, Trump felt the love of evangelicals, as one business leader prayed over him at that press conference, and religious leaders gathered to praise his name at a “Believers and Ballots” Trump event later in the day.
Pastor Paula White — who was Trump’s “spiritual adviser” while he was in the White House — was among the opening acts for the event, claiming a “mighty army” of “God” assembling to support Trump.
For the main event, Trump delivered an hourlong speech that crested during an exchange over anti-abortion protesters who disrupted Vice President Kamala Harris during a Wisconsin rally last week.
After unintelligible heckling and crowd booing, Harris quipped, “Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally. No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street.”
Trump cited that incident to attack Harris by claiming she was referring to their faith rather than their anti-abortion disruption and told the crowd that believers in Jesus are welcome at his rallies. The crowd responded with a sustained chant of “Je-sus! Je-sus! Je-sus! Je-sus!”:
DONALD TRUMP: At a campaign stop, she heard shouting from the background. “Jesus is Lord Jesus is lord.”
And Kamala Harris ridiculed them, mocked them and told them they were, quote, “You’re at the wrong rally. Get the –” She basically said, get out. But I won’t say that because people didn’t hear that so much.
But they she said you’re at the wrong rally. And that’s really what she meant. That’s really what she meant. She’s very destructive to religion. She’s very destructive to Christianity and very destructive to evangelicals and to the Catholic Church.
And she’s, she is. She is. Let me put it this way, Ben. She is your worst nightmare. Much worse. Much worse than Biden. And he wasn’t so hot.
CROWD: (LAUGHTER)
DONALD TRUMP: But while Kamala says that people who believe in Jesus don’t belong to her rallies, you have to remember that. That’s as loud as it can be. A lot of people said that would be disqualifying for her. That would be a disqualification.
