Trump Writes Head-Scratching Post About Democrats ‘Cracking Like Dogs’ As He Pushes ‘Nuclear Option’
President Donald Trump posted a head-scratching rant on Truth Social Saturday, claiming that Democrats were “cracking like dogs” over his proposal to “blow up” the filibuster.
“The Democrats are cracking like dogs on the Shutdown because they are deathly afraid that I am making progress with the Republicans on TERMINATING THE FILIBUSTER!” Trump wrote. “Whether we make a Deal or not, THE REPUBLICANS MUST “BLOW UP” THE FILIBUSTER, AND APPROVE HUNDREDS OF LONG SOUGHT, BUT NEVER GOTTEN, POLICY WINS LIKE, AS JUST A SMALL EXAMPLE, VOTER ID (IDENTIFICATION). Only a LOSER would not agree to doing this!”
CNN referred to Trump’s “filibuster fixation,” writing, “Trump has repeatedly urged Senate Republicans to unilaterally reopen the government by killing the filibuster, insisting in public and private that the so-called nuclear move is the simplest way to resolve the crisis — and put him back on offense following one of the toughest weeks of his second term.”
Conservative commentator Brendan Buck told MSNBC’s Alex Witt that putting an end to the filibuster would be a “really bad idea.”
“I know Democrats are sitting around loving it because Democrats have been the one trying to do this forever,” Buck said, continuing:
Republicans have been warning for a long time — and John Thune has said they’re not going to do it — you get rid of the filibuster, you are opening yourself up to all kinds of expansion of government. Whenever the next time Democrats are in charge, they’re going to do all kinds of things like Medicare for all that Republicans have always been against. It is not a conservative position. It’s not anything they should want to do. And it’s certainly not worth doing to fund the government for a few weeks, which is what he’s proposing.
Witt read the end of Trump’s post where he wrote, “Only a LOSER would not agree to doing this!” prompting Buck to raise his hand.
