Whoopi Goldberg Rebukes Audience for Laughing at Trump and Newsom’s Meme War
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg rebuked the audience Thursday after they laughed at the ridiculous and offensive meme war going on between President Donald Trump and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
“So, we are two days into the government shutdown and you-know-who did following through on his threat to target blue states and cut billions in funding to New York City, as well as funding in 16 mostly Democratic-led states,” Goldberg began. “He also doubled-down with yet another racist deepfake meme against House Minority Leader [Hakeem] Jeffries (D-NY).”
She then played a video of Vice President JD Vance calling the meme “funny” after a reporter asked if it was “helpful to post pictures of Leader Jeffries in a sombrero if you’re actively having talks with him.”
Goldberg then showed Gov. Newsom’s meme mocking Vance, which drew laughs from the audience.
“So politics has been reduced to internet trolling and targeted retribution,” Goldberg said as the audience laughed.
“You know, it’s cute, maybe it’s funny, but, you know — people got stuff to do! People got families to feed! You know, they don’t have time for this bull — this stuff that are doing…And you know you could say you’re targeting blue states or red states or whatever. You know, you’re actually targeting Americans. That’s who you’re targeting,” she added.
Co-host Joy Behar said, “I feel like the kindergartners are running the high school.”
“Yeah, yeah. That’s how I feel,” Sunny Hostin added.
Hostin repeated, “I will say, again, this shutdown is hurting so many Americans, and what is really driving it is that President [Barack] Obama passed the Affordable Care Act giving millions and millions of people healthcare when they didn’t have it, and President Trump wants to take that away. He wants to erase Obama’s legacy. That is what this is about.”
She continued, “Forty-seven percent of Americans disagree with Trump. They don’t approve of how he’s handling things and I think we need to, though, go back to the president Obama — to his mantra — because during his keynote address at the 2004 DNC — remember that? When he…got on the stage and became this public figure. He said, ‘There’s not a liberal America and a conservative America. There is the United States of America.”
