Chuck Todd Responds To Surprising Praise From Trump: ‘Completely MISSED the Point’
Chuck Todd responded to some surprising praise from President Donald Trump by informing the MAGA leader that he “completely missed the point.”
On The Chuck ToddCast, Todd responded to a Truth Social post by Trump in which the president thanked Todd and said he was finally “free” from NBC News where Todd was the longtime moderator on Meet the Press. Trump offered Todd praise after the reporter said in an interview with David Brody that Trump was the most impactful president since Franklin D. Roosevelt.
“Chuck Todd, formerly of NBC FAKE NEWS, in an interview with journalist David Brody. Wow, thank you Chuck. I always said that you were far better than the scum that runs the FAKE NEWS at NBC and, especially, Brian Roberts and ‘Concast.’ You are a Free Man now. Congratulations – Use your time well!” Trump wrote.
Todd noted in his response that he and Trump have shared a sometimes tense relationship since Trump snapped at Todd’s analysis in 2011 that a Trump endorsement would hurt Republican candidate Mitt Romney. Trump used to refer to Todd as “Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd.”
In a video titled “He Completely MISSED the Point,” Todd said he did not believe Trump even watched his interview with Brody since Todd has been making the FDR comparison for weeks — and it wasn’t necessarily positive.
He said:
Donald Trump saw the headline and he used it to thank me which is why it was one of those things, right he And it’s a reminder, you know, he didn’t actually listen to the interview because the interview was not necessarily a compliment. It was just, in this case, a neutral observation. Obviously, I’m not convinced that this is going to be a good outcome in the long term of where we are right now, but there is no doubt and there’s no mistaking, he’s not an asterisk in American history, right? He is leaving his imprint, we’ll leave his imprint and it’s gonna. It’s gonna be a generational impact, at least on the Republican Party and perhaps on the nation.
Todd argued the rare moment of praise from Trump was a reminder of the media bubbles people live in today, something the reporter argued he was trying to push back against by speaking to Brody.
“I think it is a reminder, there is this, we know we’re fragmented, but the question is how thick are those bubbles, right? What aren’t we seeing?” he said. “I’m constantly worried that I don’t see everything of the debate inside of what’s happening in MAGA world, what’s happened in that specific space. I’m always concerned about what do I know about the democratic socialists, what’s in that space.”
