Piers Morgan Accuses Joy Reid Of Ignoring Obama Deportations in Wild Clash On Race: ‘You’re the One Obsessed!’
Piers Morgan and Joy Reid clashed hard during a roller coaster interview that the latter called a “race-bating ambush” before it dropped.
It took less than five minutes for things to begin to get heated between Morgan and Reid. The exchange became especially tense when both accused the other of fixating on race as Morgan questioned why Reid would not be as outraged by deportations under former President Barack Obama as she is with President Donald Trump’s administration.
Reid repeatedly dismissed Morgan questioning how many migrants she believes were deported under Obama, eventually offering two million as a guess. Reid shocked Morgan at one point by declaring she didn’t “know or care” how many people were deported under Obama, arguing it was irrelevant to their debate about policies today.
“It was three million,” Morgan said.
“And your point being what?” Reid asked.
“My point being are you as shocked by that as you are claiming to be about Trump? Morgan shot back.
Reid argued Trump has been far more aggressive and had less of a “process” in his deportations, pointing to the El Salvador megaprison he’s sent criminal migrants to, as well as Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz.
The debate eventually led to a heated discussion on race.
“In the interest of fairness, do you condemn Barack Obama’s deportation policy given that he deported more people — let me finish — more people than any American president in history in his eight years?” Morgan asked.
“What an absolutely disingenuous argument, Piers,” Reid said.
“Wow. You didn’t even know how many people he deported!” Morgan said.
Reid claimed Obama made a “moral compromise” on the southern border in an effort to win over Republicans on immigration reform. Trump, she argued, is guilty of a “moral horror.”
“All I’ll tell you is Obama deported a hell of a lot more people than Trump and most of them were brown and last I checked Barack Obama isn’t white,” Morgan said.
“And what does that have to do with Obama being Black? Now you’re the one obsessed with race!” Reid fired back. “You want to make this a racial argument, the argument is that the Obama administration —”
“You made it a racial argument!” Morgan said.
“Because Donald Trump fixates on attacking Black people —” Reid said as Morgan continued.
“You said Trump is deporting people based on their skin color,” Morgan said.
“Well, it is what he does!” Reid declared.
“Obama did it too!” Morgan responded.
Reid argued Trump has a policy of removing non-White people from the country, something Morgan argued Obama would share considering the deportations.
“You’re outraged by Trump, but you’re not outraged by Obama,” Morgan said as he tried to move to a new topic.
“I’m absolutely outraged by fascism and by snatching people off the street, given no process, that I’m outraged by,” Reid said.
“Sure, but Obama wasn’t a fascist,” Morgan said. “Because Obama’s got brown skin, he’s not a fascist. Is that your policy?”
“Well, that’s your simplistic, racialized way of looking at it because that is what you’re doing on this show,” Reid responded as they moved onto the next heated debate.
Ahead of the interview dropping on Thursday, Reid took to her YouTube channel to call it a “race-baiting ambush” while Morgan wrote on X that it “did not go well” for his guest.
