WATCH: Mary Trump Says She Doesn’t Respect ‘Idiot’ Meghan McCain’s Parents in Podcast Interview
Former First Niece Mary Trump dished on her feud with Meghan McCain, telling podcast hosts Cliff Schecter and John Aravosis that the ex-Viewer is an “idiot” and that she lied when she said she respected McCain’s parents.
On this week’s episode of the Unpresidented podcast, Ms. Trump held forth on her book “The Reckoning: Our Nation’s Trauma And Finding A Way To Heal,” serving up unvarnished commentary on former President and Estranged Uncle Donald Trump and family, as well as other topics.
It was Schecter who brought up Ms. McCain, who told Trump “Good job with Meghan McCain, but we’ll talk about that another time. Thank you for saying what we were all thinking.”
Schecter was referring to Trump’s on-air callout of McCain during her last appearance on The View.
Aravosis protested “I missed it. I missed what she did with Meghan McCain,” and so Trump and Schecter recounted the feud, which began with McCain confronting Trump during the show last year, Trump calling McCain out for being absent during her interview segments in August — complete with behind-the-scenes blow-by-blow.
— and the ensuing Twitter fight.
“So Megan, because she’s an idiot, tweeted me and probably sold more books to me than anybody else, because Donald didn’t sue me this time around,” Trump said, then paraphrased McCain’s tweet, which read “There is no ‘good’ Trump family member to me. Continue to wish they would all just leave me and my entire family the fuck alone.”
“So anyway, I tweeted back something like — of course, this isn’t true, but I needed to do something — I have the utmost respect for Meghan’s parents,” Trump said, pantomiming for emphasis, and continued “But it’s a shame that this is what entitlement looks like and it’s so dangerous or whatever, and it was hysterical and it went viral and it was really fun.”
Meghan McCain’s parents are late Senator John McCain and his widow, Cindy McCain.
