Atlanta Braves Announcer Swipes at Phillies Fans During Easter Sunday Game: ‘They Might’ve Booed Jesus’

Philadelphia sports fans are so relentless that, according to Atlanta Braves announcer Brandon Gaudin, even the Lord and Savior wouldn’t be spared from their wrath.

The Braves were in Philadelphia to take on the Phillies the teams’ first series of the season. During Sunday’s series finale, Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia was greeted with a rain of boos as he talked to the plate for his at-bat.

While many criticize Philly’s fans, Gaudin has grown to appreciate their actions.

“I really do enjoy the boos,” Gaudin said. “It just makes it fun.”

Analyst C.J. Nitkowski agreed.

“This place more than any other, one way or another,” he said. “It’s either against your team, for your team, for the opponent — just boo everyone. You can’t get through an inning without someone getting booed in either uniform.”

When Nitkowski pointed out that they continued to boo on Easter Sunday, Gaudin joked that Phillies fans would give Jesus Christ the same treatment.

“They might have booed Christ after the resurrection,” Gaudin said. “I don’t know. I wasn’t there that day.”

To Nitkowski, it made sense.

“I think so,” he responded. “No one is immune.”

That reputation from Philly fans began decades ago. During an Eagles game in 1968, a man dressed as Santa Claus was introduced in the stadium. When he got up to wave to the crowd, he was booed and endured a barrage of snowballs.
