ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky Drops F-Bomb on Set When He Finds Out It’s the Anniversary of His Infamous Safety

No matter how far ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky goes in his career as a celebrated analyst, it seems he’ll never be able to escape the most embarrassing moment of his NFL career.

On Thursday, Get Up host Mike Greenberg surprised Orlovsky and the rest of the crew when he revealed that it was the 15th anniversary of Orlovsky’s safety against the Minnesota Vikings in 2008. At the time, Orlovsky was the quarterback of the Detroit Lions team that would eventually go 0-16.

During the October matchup, the Lions’ offense was pinned near its own goal line. Orlovsky dropped back to pass, then scrambled to his right to evade Vikings defensive end Jared Allen. In doing so, however, he ran out of the back of the end zone and committed a safety to give the Vikings two points.

Naturally, Orlovsky wasn’t thrilled with the anniversary.

“What the fuck?” Orlovsky said on live TV. The rest of the crew immediately began laughing when he let the word slip.

Kimberley Martin jokingly estimated that she sees the clip weekly on ESPN. According to Orlovsky, that’s nothing compared to his experience.

“I see it a hundred times a day,” he replied.

The crew then pivoted to Orlovsky’s interesting hairstyle at the time.

“I say this all the time: when you see this picture, someone married that person,” Orlovsky said. “This was in 2008? This is a year before I got married.

“Still married me. I have four kids with her.”

Greenberg agreed with the assessment.

“The bangs are question,” he said.

Luckily for Orlovsky, he’s no longer alone when it comes to that kind of mistake. Since then, a handful of other QBs have done the same.
