Julian Edelman Reveals Michael Jordan Wagered ‘A Bunch of Money’ on Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX and Told Him, ‘Don’t F*ck It Up’

Former NFL player Julian Edelman revealed that the first time he met Michael Jordan, the NBA legend was quick to remind him of his infamous gambling habit.

On Tuesday’s episode of Edelman’s Games With Names podcast, Edelman was joined by comedian Bert Kreischer. When the topic of the conversation shifted to Jordan, Edelman shared the story about meeting him just before Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Edelman was one of the Patriots’ star receivers at the time.

Days before the game, Edelman took his family to dinner. That’s when he bumped into Jordan and baseball legend Derek Jeter.

“And I’m super starstruck,” Edelman said, “and I’m about to play in the Super Bowl. I go up — and you could tell Jeter’s a very charming guy, welcoming. I go up [and say], ‘Mr. Jeter, I’m Julian Edelman. I’m playing in the Super Bowl.’ I felt weird introducing myself, but I wanted to meet him.”

Edelman described Jordan as “standoffish” while he continued talking to Jeter. Once that conversation wrapped up, however, Jordan had an important message for it.

“I started talking with Jeter and everything’s good,” Edelman said, “and as soon as the conversation’s about to end like five minutes in [and] I’m about to leave, Jordan comes up to me and he goes, ‘Hey kid, I got a bunch of money on you. Don’t fuck it up.’ And that’s the only thing he said to me.”

“I go, ‘Yes sir, Mr. Jordan.’ I didn’t know what to say. It was crazy.”
