WATCH: LA Rams Coach Sean McVay Shows Off Uncanny Trivia Knowledge About Opponents in Upcoming Season
Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay showed what it takes to be an NFL coach Wednesday when he displayed impressive trivia skills as part of the 2024 schedule release.
Shortly after the team revealed its schedule, the Rams also posted a video of McVay being quizzed about the opponents they’ll be facing this upcoming season. The questions ranged from basic trivia to specific plays from several years ago, and McVay managed to get them all without even the slightest struggle.
The Rams travel to Detroit for their season opener against the Lions. Three years ago, the Rams hosted the Lions and won thanks to one key play in the fourth quarter. McVay was asked to name that play.
“Yeah, that was a great touchdown pass from [Matthew Stafford] to Cooper Kupp,” McVay said before reciting the impossibly long name of the years-old play. “Got them in a man coverage right there. Cooper gets out, flanked them. Good throw and catch.”
Then, McVay asked which team retired defensive tackle Aaron Donald got his 100th career sack against. The answer was the Rams’ Week 2 opponent.
“It was a heck of a play,” McVay recalled. “Full way out on Kyler Murray against the Cardinals — and the picture of it, I still gotta get him to sign that one.”
McVay also displayed his knowledge of the history of the game. For the Rams’ Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers, he was asked to name the top three receiving leaders in Packers history.
“Donald Driver is up there,” McVay said. “James Lofton and Sterling Sharpe. Gotta be the top three.”
The coach was spot-on.
By the end, he finished a perfect 14 of 14.
“I have no life, really,” he joked at the end.
