Bernie Sanders Says He Won’t Seek 2020 Advice From Hillary: We Have ‘Fundamental Differences’
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) criticized Hillary Clinton on Friday while rejecting the notion that he cost her the chance to beat President Donald Trump in the 2016 election.
During an appearance on The View in which he discussed his 2020 presidential ambitions, Joy Behar asked the senator whether undermined Clinton in 2016 by dividing the Democratic Party and not being more supportive of her candidacy.
“I knocked my brains out working to get Hillary Clinton elected,” Sanders said.
He added, “I went all over the country. We got a letter someplace from Hillary Clinton thanking me for what we did. What I did was sit down with her and work on a Progressive agenda which has become the agenda not only of the Democratic Party, but of the United States of America.”
Sanders went on to defend his progressive ideas while slamming the political establishment for its continued fight against him. When the conversation returned to Clinton, Sanders explained that she lost against President Donald Trump because “she didn’t reach out to working class people the way I think she should have, there were states where she did not campaign as vigorously as she should have…”
When asked whether he’ll consult Clinton for advice in his the election, Sanders dryly said, “I suspect not.”
The senator went on to say he has “fundamental differences” with Clinton. He expressed hope that Democrats will unite behind a single candidate against Trump, however, whether its him or somebody else.
