Bill O’Reilly Suspects Brian Williams Made Up Story to Sound ‘Cool’
Bill O’Reilly tonight figured that Brian Williams made up a story about being shot at by an RPG because he wanted to appear “cool.” He brought on both Howard Kurtz and Lauren Ashburn to discuss the media scandal, the latter of whom said “NBC News has to reprimand him.”
But none of them were holding their breath.
Kurtz said journalists don’t get to fudge the truth like politicians do, because of the inherent trust one associates journalists with. However, he said, Williams is so important to the NBC franchise that they won’t discipline him. But if it had been anyone at NBC other than Williams, they’d be screwed.
O’Reilly brought up how Williams told the embellished story on Letterman two years ago, and figured that Williams only told the story because he wanted to seem “cool” to the kind of people who would watch a late night show in the first place.
