Bolling Presses Lindsey Graham on Trump Support: ‘What Would John McCain Think?’

Sinclair anchor Eric Bolling questioned Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on his newfound support for President Donald Trump on America This Week.

In a wide-ranging interview that aired Wednesday, Bolling eventually turned to Graham’s embrace of the president, who he ran against in 2016 and described as a “kook.”

“You were not always on board with Trump,” Bolling said, noting Graham’s state, South Carolina, largely supports the president.

“That’s an understatement,” Graham quipped.

“What do you say to those who say, well you came on board the Trump train because your 2020 reelection?” Bolling asked.

Graham noted that he worked with President Barack Obama after the Democrat beat John McCain, and that after Trump trounced him in the 2016 election, he decided to do the same.

“From a policy point of view I’m happy as a clam,” Graham said, noting the Trump administration’s fight against ISIS, tax reform, and appointment of conservative justices. “I think he’s doing a hell of a job.”

“What would John McCain think of your newfound love of President Trump?” Bolling asked.

Graham replied that McCain was adept at moving on from election losses, and that Graham sought to do the same. “People in South Carolina expect me to help this president when I can, and I’ll tell him when I disagree.”

“Would John McCain eventually have come around to seeing the pro-Trump light had he not succumbed?” Bolling asked.

“I don’t know,” Graham said first. “From a policy point of view, I know John McCain liked cutting taxes, I know Senator McCain liked a strong military, I know he liked conservative judges.”

“Here’s the point: Trump can be a handful, he’s a lot of fun,” he continued. “But from a policy point of view, this man is going to be a historic president. I’m going to do anything I can to help him.”
