Chris Wallace Grills Top Democratic Rep.: ‘Is Nancy Pelosi a Liability’ in Midterms?

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace grilled House Democratic Caucus chairman Joe Crowley (D—NY) on rumors he could run for the House minority leader position if Democrats flip the House in 2018, replacing Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D—CA) should he win the race.

Wallace brought up how Republicans have run ads going after Pelosi––even a recent Democratic winner distanced himself from her––and asked Crowley, “Is Nancy Pelosi a liability for Democrats in this campaign?”

Crowley pushed back on Wallace’s repeated questions about Pelosi being a liability to her party, and said he most likely would not attempt to unseat the longtime Democratic leader.

“If Nancy Pelosi stays, I don’t see a scenario by which I would challenge her for that position,” he said on Sunday. “I’m focused right now on winning back the House of Representatives.”

“It’s the focus and goal of the entire Democratic leadership,” he added.

Pelosi has led the Democrats for over 12 years, and has been a staple of the party’s leadership for several decades. But her recent dip in popularity, paired with the party’s internal reckoning underway as to whether it should continue to stick with the vision of leaders like Pelosi Pelosi or move further left toward the likes of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I—VT), has made her a central focus for Republicans leading up to the midterms.
