CNN Anchors Lose It When Colleague Breaks Out Fortune Teller Props in Off-the-Wall Pre-Eclipse Live Hit

CNN featured special coverage of the total solar eclipse on Monday with several correspondents reporting live from the path of totality. The rare astronomical event has several CNN talent letting loose and getting silly, and sometimes invoking personalities from other realms.

As the eclipse began in Kerrville, Texas, CNN correspondent Rosa Flores continued her “fortune teller” schtick complete with a crystal ball — and promises of psychic services — and got anchors Boris Sanchez and Brianna Keilar laughing over her reference to the late, great, flamboyant Puerto Rican astrologer Walter Mercado:

Flores: Boris, Brianna, back to you. But I’m serious about those questions. If you want to email me, text me, you know where I work. Back to you.

Keilar: Well, yeah, I think Boris has some lottery number questions that maybe you can help him with, Rosa.

Sanchez: I have to tell you, Rosa, for those who know, they will love this — Walter Mercado right now is smiling in heaven. He’s a famous Latin fortune teller that was known all across Latin America. He’s smiling in heaven. I hear Rosa laughing. What was that, Rosa?

Flores: I love Walter Mercado! I grew up with Walter Mercado! It is an honor for you to mention that I brought some tribute to Walter Mercado! Oh, wait, wait. Boris, you’re gonna get to, you’re going to understand this: “Con mucho, pero mucho, amor.”

Sanchez: “Con mucho, mucho amor.” If you had told me that I was going to be imitating Walter Mercado on CNN when I was a little kid, I would have told you you were full of crap.
