CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin and Elie Honig Hit Michael Cohen Selling Anti-Trump Merchandise ‘Campaigning’ for Trump Jail Time

The legal defense team of former President Donald Trump received some supportive advice from CNN legal analysts who went off on Michael Cohen selling anti-Trump merchandise.

Cohen is the star witness in the prosecution of Trump’s alleged hush money-election interference criminal trial and faced tough cross-examination from Trump’s defense attorneys. Tuesday night, John Berman read transcripts of the back-and-forth during Anderson Cooper 360, which focused on the anti-Trump merchandise Cohen continues to sell.

A “Cheeto-dusted” Trump belonging in a “little cage” was mentioned as what Cohen was challenged about, as well as T-shirts he is selling showing Trump behind bars. Elie Honig and Jeffrey Toobin were left unimpressed with the merch sales by Trump’s former fixer.

“The fact that Michael Cohen, so obviously over the top, is consumed by hatred for Donald Trump and wants him in prison, is celebrating and is selling t-shirts is outrageous,” Honig said. “We sort of take it for granted because this has just been Michael Cohen’s public persona for the last 5 or 6 years, but this should be a bonanza for cross-examination.”

He then turned to former federal prosecutors sharing his panel, asking, “What would you do if you found out on the eve of a big trial that your star witness was selling t-shirts showing the defendant in prison? You’d have to think hard about dismissing the case. That is a major flaw in the defense.”

“Especially if he’s Cheeto dusted. Yeah, that would be the worst,” Toobin deadpanned back.

“Look, Michael Cohen has a sort of way with words.,: Honig continued. “It can get funny, but, you know, laughing about a defendant going to jail is … I think it’s offensive to the jury. That’s not for Michael Cohen to say that’s about.”

That’s the worst part of all the things that that Cohen has said. It’s one thing to say he’s terrible,” Toobin agreed. “‘I don’t like him,’ you know, use all sorts of swear words. But if you are talking about the results of this case, I mean, that’s what this case is about whether Donald Trump is eligible to go to prison or not. And you have Cohen campaigning for that. That’s a very negative. Negative”
