CNN’s Smerconish Explains Why Voters Who Dislike Trump Might Put Up With the ‘Laura Loomer Bullsh*t’

CNN’s Michael Smerconish said Friday that voters who might find former President Donald Trump personally repulsive might vote for him if they believe he will improve the economy.

That includes, as he put it, putting up with the “bullshit” that comes with Trump aligning himself with conspiracy theorists such as Laura Loomer – who Trump spent time with publicly this week.

Loomer, known for her online vitriol and 9/11 trutherism, traveled with Trump to Pennsylvania for Tuesday night’s debate. Wednesday, she accompanied him to a number of events commemorating the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Friday, Trump declined to disavow her.

On Friday’s edition of The Source with host Kaitlan Collins, Smerconish said that Loomer’s proximity to Trump might not be a deal-breaker for voters who are convinced Democrats are responsible for inflation.

Collins noted Harris had lined up big endorsements in Pennsylvania where she spent Friday campaigning. The host asked Smerconish how he saw Harris’s ground game in the commonwealth affecting the race.

Smerconish explained some voters might put up with just about anything from Trump if he delivers on the economy. He explained:

Can I tell you what I think is the most important constituency in Pennsylvania, maybe nationally, in this election? And it’s not one that fits a cross tab in the poll. It’s the, “Oh, my don’t make me vote for him again. Am I going to have to vote for him again?” It’s the mindset of people who do not like him on a personal level, listened to all that Laura Loomer bullshit, right?

They’re like, “This is not a guy I want to vote for. But you know what, the economy is important and the market was pretty good, and interest rates and so forth. And the price of butter and bread was a hell of a lot less. Gasoline was reasonable. We weren’t at war the way we’re worried now about Russia and the situation in Gaza. I am I going to have to do this? Go reach those people.”
