CNN’s Smerconish to Democratic Rep.: Isn’t It Premature to Be Talking About Impeachment?

Congressman Al Green (D- TX) was calling for President Donald Trump‘s impeachment months ago, and he spoke with CNN’s Michael Smerconish about his efforts this morning.

Smerconish noted how a week ago, we wouldn’t have known about Michael Cohen‘s guilty plea and Alan Weisselberg‘s immunity deal, and so he asked, “Doesn’t that speak to the prematurity of your wanting to impeach the President? Aren’t you better served just waiting it all out?”

Green, after touting how many in the Democratic party agree with him, said, “I do not believe that it’s premature. I do believe that the President is now an unindicted co-conspirator and I think that carries a lot of weight with it.”

“If the President has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, he ought to be impeached,” Green declared.

Smerconish recalled the Clinton era and asked, “Didn’t we learn in the 90s with the Clinton intern scandal that at its core sex and a related case is not enough to rise to that level?”

Green brought up the Nixon era and said in that situation, “we learned that once you start the investigation, you find out things that you don’t necessarily expect to find.”
