CNN’s Stelter Battles Trump Spox on 9/11 Claims: ‘Grossly Exaggerating’

stelter piersonCNN’s Brian Stelter clashed with Donald Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson this morning on Trump’s incredibly untrue claim that thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheered on 9/11.

Pierson attacked the media and scolded them for telling Trump and others “they didn’t see what they saw,” claiming that the mainstream media is trying to deny there are any radical Muslims in the United States.

Stelter told her at best “your candidate is grossly exaggerating,” because if this had ever happened, the media would have talked about it a lot. Pierson said the issue isn’t about thousands of Muslims, it was whether there were Muslims cheering in the U.S. at all.

She even brought up a special CNN ran on radical Muslims in the U.S., but Stelter noted that has nothing to do with Trump’s very specific claim of thousands cheering in New Jersey. “That’s a fact.”

He also challenged Pierson on Trump’s mockery of a disabled New York Times reporter. Pierson said Trump is “always animated” and mimes a lot, but Stelter said that looked too much like Serge Kovaleski‘s specific disability to be a coincidence.
