Colbert Lampoons Fox News’ Coverage of Latinos During Hispanic Heritage Month
Wednesday evening on Comedy Central, Stephen Colbert lampooned Fox News for what he believed to be its stereotype-ridden commentary on Latinos during Hispanic Heritage Month.
“My friends over at Fox News have really taken their Hispanic Heritage festivities up a notch this year by having some,” the host joked before rolling tape of the network’s commentators “celebrating” Latino history by railing against Mexico and illegal immigrants — or “invaders” and “squatters,” as Cal Thomas said in one soundbite.
Jokingly suggesting this was the wrong footage, Colbert then asked for the actual Fox News footage celebrating Latino heritage: correspondent Alicia Acuna‘s report on Hispanic-owned food company Goya.
“Thank you for that wonderful report from the international foods aisle,” Colbert mocked. “I look forward to Fox News report on Italian heritage featuring Chef Boyardee.”
