Comey: Trump Is ‘Not Committed to the Truth’ as an American Value

During his appearance on The View, James Comey gave his reaction to Donald Trump‘s latest tweet claiming that he didn’t fire the former FBI director because of the Russian collusion investigations.

Trump’s tweet interested many political observers today since his statement directly contradicts what he said a year ago about how the Russia investigation was a significant factor in his decision to fire Comey. When Sunny Hostin asked the former FBI chief for his thoughts about this, Comey said he took Trump at his word last year when he told Lester Holt his reasons for the firing.

“I think that illustrates part of the problem I’m trying to bring up: that it matters that the president is not committed to the truth as a central American value, but I don’t know what to make of it.”

When asked whether Trump’s base will notice or care about the president’s contradiction, Comey reiterated his recent statement about how the public cannot become numb to Trump saying crazy or abnormal things on a regular basis.
