Conservative Journo Responds to Bob Beckel’s Physical Fight Threat
Jason Mattera, the conservative ambush journalist who sent Fox News’ Bob Beckel into a conniption Wednesday, says he accepts the challenge for the two to come face-to-face. Just maybe not in the way Beckel had hoped.
On The Five, Beckel, along with most of the other four co-hosts, said he didn’t agree with a recent video stunt by Mattera wherein he ambushed and berated former IRS official Lois Lerner while she was in a neighborhood walking her dogs. The point of the video was to confront Lerner over declining to testify about the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups that tried to achieve nonprofit status.
The video enraged Beckel in particular. He called Mattera a “punk” and “bully” and challenged him to a fight. “And bring a knife,” Beckel said.
Mattera told Mediaite he’s willing to confront Beckel, but not really for a fight. Mattera would rather get some publicity.
“Bob Beckel issued a challenge on television to meet me anytime, anyplace,” Mattera said in an email. “I’m naming the place: How about [tomorrow] on The Five? What time would you like me to appear, Bob? I look forward to our national debate on effective journalism.”
Mattera has caused controversy in the past with other ambushes on figures like Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
