‘Crime Against This Republic!’ CNN’s Van Jones Torches Dems for Biden ‘Cover-Up’

CNN commentator Van Jones said Sunday that Democrats will face long-term political consequences for what he called a “massive cover-up” of President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline during his final year in office.

Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper, Jones reacted to revelations from the upcoming book Original Sin, co-authored by Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson.

The book details Biden’s mental lapses and an alleged effort by aides and allies to conceal them from the public ahead of his decision to end his re-election bid.

“I was shocked,” Jones said. “I love Joe Biden. I got a chance to work with him when I was part of the Obama administration. I loved him more every day. I was shocked to see his condition when he came out, and so was the world.”

Jones pointed to claims in the book that members of Biden’s circle were aware of his decline but remained silent.

“That wasn’t the first time he was in that condition,” Jones said. “The book makes it very, very clear there are people who knew and said nothing. And that is a crime against this republic. I think the Democrats are going to pay for a long time for being a part of what is now being revealed to be a massive cover-up.”

Tapper followed up by referencing an interview on The View in which Biden insisted he would have won re-election had he stayed in the race. He asked David Axelrod to respond.

“I think that’s preposterous,” Axelrod said. “He’s being told that by Mike Donilon, his top political aide. I think [Donilon] is just so tied to Biden emotionally that he could not accept the truth.”

Axelrod said polling before the first presidential debate showed Biden had less than a 5% chance of winning and warned that Democrats would have lost additional Senate seats if he had remained in the race.

Original Sin is set for release on Tuesday.
