Cuomo to Senator: Is Congress Ashamed of Being Absent During Airstrikes?

New Day host Chris Cuomo asked Senator Angus King (I-ME) Thursday morning whether Congress had “a sense of collective shame” about being home campaigning during the airstrikes against ISIS, especially when contrasted with UK’s parliament, which was reconvened by British Prime Minister David Cameron to debate action against ISIS.

“No irony that the Congress isn’t even in session right now,” Cuomo said. “Cameron’s calling [the Parliament] back, them voting, only on Iraq, to make sure that there is unity and responsibility on a situation fraught with risk. This Congress? Nothing.”

“I can’t disagree,” King said. “I heard the clip, Cameron said, ‘Parliament’s coming back into session.’ My thinking is: we oughta be doing the same thing.”

King said he was confident Congress would eventually debate a new Authorization of Military Force. (The Obama administration is operating under the one passed prior to the start of the 2003 Iraq War.)
