Dan Abrams Critiques Media For Largely Ignoring Wild Fraud Investigation Into NY Attorney General Letitia James: ‘This is Serious’

Mediaite founder Dan Abrams expressed shock at the lack of media coverage of a shocking fraud investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James, who famously prosecuted President Donald Trump for alleged fraud.

During his show on Friday on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel, Abrams laid out the startling accusations against James from the Federal Housing Finance Agency, including mortgage fraud and falsifying documents concerning two properties owned by New York’s top prosecutor in Norfolk, Virginia, and Brooklyn, New York.

“Obviously if she’s doing this, this isn’t just trouble for her legally. It also just reeks of hypocrisy because of what she’s been saying about Donald Trump in going after him for the way he was dishonestly seeking loans,” Abrams said.

In Norfolk, James is accused of falsifying residence status to get a better mortgage rate.

And in Brooklyn, she’s been accused of buying a five-family property with a loan only available for units of four or less, and misrepresented the property as such.

Abrams said:

When I first heard that the attorney general had been referred, there was a criminal referral made by the director of the federal Housing and Finance Agency, my initial response was, ‘Oh boy, here we go. Trump is just weaponizing the departments and in this case making a reference to the DOJ, and I’m sure this was all nonsense.’ But then I actually read what they were alleging. This is real. This is serious, and I think this could mean big trouble for the attorney general.

After the New York Times reported on the allegations, James’ office actually responded, sending the paper a separate loan application form indicating she never intended to occupy the Norfolk property as her primary residence and she was never required to do so. On the Brooklyn property, a rider attached the mortgage clarified the building was four units and agreed that she had said so consistently in paper work.

Abrams’ guest Dennis Vacco, a Republican and former New York attorney general, said he believes the allegations are “not a good look” and responding to the Times report through the office of the attorney general and not her own legal representation could present a problem for her.

“It’s a mistake that she’s using the resources of her office at the moment,” Vacco said. “But if she’s going to properly manage this she’s going to need independent outside counsel.”

Abrams added: “Her legal defenses are interesting, but I do not see how she does not get charged here.”

Before taking calls from listeners, Abrams offered a damning assessment of the allegations, jabbing at media outlets on both sides of the political spectrum for failing to report on the story:

I believe the attorney general of New York is going to get charged by the feds here criminally. I think this is going to be a big deal. I think it is a case that is being under-covered right, even in the right wing media. I’ve been surprised this hasn’t gotten more attention.
