David Gregory Uses Jimmy Kimmel Joke To Ask Robert Gibbs Why Obama Deserves A Second Term

On Meet the Press today, David Gregory had former Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs make the case for reelecting President Obama in November. He preceded this question with a joke from Jimmy Kimmel‘s routine at the White House Correspondents Dinner last night, when Kimmel joked, “Remember when the country rallied around you in hopes of a better tomorrow? That was hilarious.” Gregory asked if all that goodwill has evaporated in Obama’s first term, why should he get a second one?

Gibbs argued that the trajectory Obama has set the country on is one that makes us safer and stronger in the long run. He said, “We’re making progress and turning that corner.” Gibbs cited recent job growth in the manufacturing sector as “significant steps” being taken by the Obama administration. He contrasted that with Mitt Romney‘s record of “outsourcing and downsizing and bankrupting,” and promised that economic progress would continue under the Obama administration.
