Democrat Rep. Blasts ‘Deplorable’ Giuliani: ‘Hard to Believe He Ever Was a Serious U.S. Attorney’
Congresswoman Jackie Speier (D-CA) slammed Rudy Giuliani for his blistering attacks on prosecutors and FBI agents investigating the Trump administration, stupefied as to how he’d ever served as an attorney.
“I’m so disgusted by Rudy Giuliani and his unleashed nature,” she told MSNBC’s Alex Witt Sunday. “It is hard to believe that he ever was a serious U.S. attorney.”
Speier was responding to claims made by Giuliani on Saturday that investigators were motivated by their anger over President Donald Trump‘s election and that they belong in a psychiatric ward.
“To throw that kind of dirt around, to be so demeaning to people that have served our country with distinction is deplorable to me,” Speier said.
The congresswoman, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, also addressed The Washington Post‘s new report revealing Trump confidante Roger Stone met with a Russian who offered him dirt on Hillary Clinton to the tune of $2 million. Stone tole the Post he believes it was a setup and that the man was an FBI informant, but Speier isn’t buying it.
“Very suspicious, isn’t it,” she told Witt. “But they swore under oath to the House Intelligence Committee. They have committed a crime, they have not told the truth to Congress, and they should be prosecuted for it.”
Speier said Stone and Trump’s former campaign adviser Michael Caputo, who allegedly organized the meeting, “absolutely could” be charged with perjury.
“I think that they were very well-schooled on what they were going to say and what they weren’t going to say. They are close friends. They in fact then heard about this and then subsequently you had the Trump campaign a month later meeting with Russians about dirt on Hillary. So all of this was building up,” she said.
“I don’t believe for one minute that this was an FBI informant who was operating at that point in time,” she added, “because there had not been a case open until late June investigating the Trump campaign and their engagement with the Russians.”
