On SNL, Ellen DeGeneres Can’t Stop Dancing, No Matter How Much She Wants To

Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show (side note: the real-life Ellen hosted SNL back in the day) has a lot of dancing. Like, a lot of dancing. So when SNL lampooned the show tonight with Kate McKinnon in the title role, there was, well, a lot of dancing. Too much dancing for Ellen to take, even. But she danced on, because she’s a good soldier. As McKinnon said again and again, she’s Ellen.

And in truth, I kind of wish the sketch had pushed the “the crowd is insatiable and pushes Ellen to the brink of insanity in its desire for nonstop dancing” angle a bit further. Because the rest of the sketch was, well, pretty bland. Sure, that was sort of the point (especially in the case of the “prank”), but sometimes there are only so many laughs to be had with gentle mocking. Then again, what was there to do besides gently mock? DeGeneres never does anything to deserve more than gentle mocking. She’s a kind soul. She’s… she’s Ellen. Watch the sketch below, via NBC.
