Former GOP Rep. Baffled by GOP Sticking With Trump: He’s a ‘Two-Time Impeached Guy’ and a ‘Big Loser’
Former Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (R- VA) said Friday she does not understand why her party is continuing to anchor itself to Donald Trump after everything he’s done.
CNN’s Ana Cabrera asked Comstock why Republicans like Lindsey Graham are still clinging to Trump after they “lost the White House, the House, and the Senate.”
“I don’t understand,” Comstock admitted. “He divided the country and now he’s dividing the Republican Party. So you are dividing up what is a minority.”
She said there are plenty of Republicans like Tim Scott who could be better, more effective party leaders, before adding, “There are so many great Republicans who we have out there. To hang our hat on a two-time impeached guy who lost the popular vote twice does not make any sense, but it has become a cult of personality, it’s very destructive, and I am very sad to see it come to this.”
Comstock expressed agreement with Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R- IL) railing against “capitulation to crazy” in the GOP, and lamented, “I can’t come up with any explanation for why you want to hitch your wagon to somebody who has already demonstrated he can divide your party, divide the country, and be destructive.”
“It makes no sense to say ‘Let’s go hang with the loser.’ He is a sore loser, he was a big loser, and it is time to move on.”
