Fox Business Host: Trump Told Me He Wants Civility, And He Deserves Credit For That
Fox Business host Trish Regan said on Friday that you’ve got to give President Donald Trump some credit: he once told her he wanted civility.
During a discussion on her new show, Regan defended the president against attempts by liberal guest Jehmu Greene to lay some blame on him for one of his supporters sending pipe bombs to his most outspoken critics.
Regan criticized the “mainstream media” for “speculating that this is all Donald Trump.” She invoked Geraldo Rivera, who appeared on her show Thursday night to speculate that the bombs were sent as an “elaborate hoax” to “embarrass President Trump.”
When Regan then scolded Hillary Clinton (a target of the bomber) and Maxine Waters (also a target) for their own uncivil comments, Greene asked that she also condemn Trump’s rhetoric.
“I said this to him, and he agreed,” Regan said of Trump. “You’ve got to give him that. And you look at what he’s been saying over the last couple of days, and he has stressed the importance of coming together.”
The pipe bombs sent to 12 of Trump’s critics did inspire some fleeting calls for civility from the president.
“We must never allow political violence to take root in America,” he said on Friday after an apparently fanatical supporter of his was arrested in connection with the bombings. “We cannot let it happen. We are committed to do everything to stop it. To stop it now.”
Then, at a rally on Friday night, he accused the media of causing incivility in the country as his rally crowd chanted “CNN sucks” — echoing a bumper sticker on the suspected bomber’s van.
He called Democrats “radical” and “extreme,” and bashed “Crooked Hillary,” inspiring chants of “Lock her up!” from the crowd.
As for CNN, Trump has made the network the primary target of his rage against the media. Lest we forget the time he tweeted out a video that showed him violently beating a man with the CNN logo superimposed on his head:
