Fox News’ Ed Henry Openly Mocks Pete Hegseth for Wanting to Investigate Hillary Clinton
Fox News host Ed Henry called out his colleague Pete Hegseth for suggesting new investigations of Hillary Clinton and others just seconds after saying “Can we get over 2016 already?”
On Sunday’s edition of Fox & Friends, the weekend hosts were discussing the then-forthcoming summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s report, and the fact that Democrats will continue to investigate Trump on a variety of matters post-Mueller.
“If you’re annoyed, I am too,” an annoyed Hegseth said. “Like, it never ever ever ever ever ends. Can we get over 2016 already, and run in 2020 if you want to beat this president?”
But literally, in the next breath, Hegseth read from one of many recent calls for a new special counsel to investigate the investigation of Hillary Clinton, in this case a New York Post op-ed by Michael Goodwin entitled “How to end our national nightmare — probe Hillary Clinton again.”
“And you endorse that?” Henry asked.
“Yeah,” Hegseth replied, and went on to say that “I think that’s what a lot of people — you don’t want more investigations, but you want accountability.”
Stifling a laugh, Henry said “I’m just trying to understand, so Pete, you’re saying people don’t want more investigations…”
“Correct!” Hegseth said.
“…But let’s have a new special counsel for more investigation.”
“Correct!” Hegseth said.
“As long as you’re investigating the other guy, it’s cool,” Henry said.
“You have to get past the fatigue, I am tired of the investigations,” Hegseth said.
Henry said he thought there should have been “accountability” for “FBI and Justice Department abuses,” but “if you want to move on from 2016, you can’t then say let’s have another special counsel and investigate Hillary. Either you’re moving on or you’re not.”
Hegseth then compared investigating Hillary Clinton to “a disagreement with your significant other,” as Henry continued to express amusement.
