Fox News Host Calls Out Disputed Ron DeSantis Claim of CRT in Math Books: ‘They Do Need to Come Up With Some Examples on This’

Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner discussed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) defending the state’s decision to reject math textbooks with radio talk show host Jason Rantz on Tuesday.

DeSantis gave a speech earlier Tuesday deafening Florida’s Department of Education banning Math textbooks the department claims promote social and emotional learning, which critics link to the controversial critical race theory.

“Florida Democrats are demanding to see examples of the CRT in these textbooks. DeSantis so far has set up a review but otherwise, he is not budging,” Faulkner said before playing a clip from DeSantis’ speech:

You do have things like social and emotional learning and some of the other things more political in there. In our view on something like math first it doesn’t meet the standards but second math is about getting the right answer. And we want kids to learn to think so they get the right answer. We’re going to continue to focus the education on the actual strong academic performance of the student. We don’t want things like math to have some of these other concepts introduced.

“Not that it was anybody’s intention but they need to come up with examples on this,” Faulkner then said.

“And I know the governor says they are reviewing it,” she added.

Florida state Rep. Carlos G Smith slammed DeSantis on Twitter Tuesday, writing: “#DeSantis had three days to provide basic info on the 54 math books he banned from schools for allegedly “indoctrinating” kids with CRT. The best his propaganda machine could do was deflect to a Missouri district that apologized for a homework assignment they didn’t approve.”

“You Jason have given one of the best explanations of the tie between math and CRT as part of this argument,” Faulkner moved on, letting Rantz give a lengthy, somewhat odd take on how he believes the left is tying math to white supremacy:

They are basically saying folks who are– call themselves anti-racist activists they claim white supremacy affects math. The characteristic of perfection is an example of white supremacy. When you look at Math, you have correct answers and incorrect answers. So when you are being told an answer might not be correct that somehow in the twisted view of far-left folks say it’s white supremacy. The Gates foundation bankrolled a group saying math being objective is unequivocally false. So this is what we’re seeing. It is not just in Florida. It has been happening on the west coast in particular Washington and Oregon for quite some time.

“Wow, we just learned Pi is not negotiable,” jested Harris, ending the segment on a lighter note.
