Fox News’ Bob Beckel: GOP ‘Cut And Run Like A Scalded Dog’ Away From Budget Talks

With the deadline for the debt ceiling fast approaching, many are beginning to point fingers regarding who is really to blame in case a deal isn’t reached. Republican Senator John Cornyn yesterday suggested President Obama was “irresponsible” for allowing it to come to this, while today Democratic strategist and Fox News contributor Bob Beckel returned fire suggesting the Republicans are the real culprits.

Beckel suggested it was ridiculous for Republicans to claim Obama is the reason why a deal cannot be reached:

“When [Republicans] talk about revenue, the Majority Leader of the House, Eric Cantor of Virginia, cuts and runs like a scalded dog away from that table. It’s not the Democrats that are the problem. It’s the Republicans that refuse to talk about any revenue to try to bring ourselves into some sanity here.”

Andrea Tantaros backed up Cornyn, suggesting that up until now Obama has “outsourced the entire negotiation to Joe Biden.” Yet with both sides now able to inspire their base with increasingly extreme insults about their idealogical opponent, from purely a political standpoint, maybe a real big compromise doesn’t really benefit either party?
