Fox’s Joe Concha Says CBS Should Yank Colbert’s Show Now To ‘Save Face’

Joe Concha said CBS should pull the plug on The Late Show now rather than allow Stephen Colbert to continue hosting until May.

This month, Colbert revealed to audience members during a taping that the network was canceling the show, effective next spring. The move came shortly after CBS’s parent company Paramount shelled out $16 million to President Donald Trump to settle a lawsuit. At the time of the settlement and Colbert’s cancellation, Paramount was seeking the approval of Trump’s Federal Communications Commission to enter a multibillion-dollar merger with Skydance. The FCC approved the deal last week.

Concha joined Sunday’s Fox Reports, where he spoke with host Jon Scott about Concha’s column in The Washington Examiner that called for Colbert’s immediate cancellation.

“I suppose most people don’t pay much attention to late-night ratings, but Stephen Colbert is not exactly setting the world on fire these days,” Scott said.

“Oh, no,” Concha replied. “Losing on a nightly basis, Jon, by about a million losers to Greg Gutfeld. And Gutfeld on Fox News has a fraction of the resources that Stephen Colbert has. More than 100 staffers, a production budget of $130 million annually. These are unsustainable numbers, especially as… The Late Show is losing $40 million a year. The host that you see on your screen gets paid $20 million a year.”

Concha went on to grouse that Colbert has stepped up his attacks on Paramount on the show.

“And when he’s not doing that, he told a sitting president of the United States, President Trump, to go expletive himself,” he continued. “That’s not funny. That’s basically, MSNBC meets The View at night. And that’s why he’s hemorrhaging viewers the way he is, all while losing the network tens of millions of dollars. I say, why keep him around now for 10 months where he’s gonna continue to bash your network when you can just cut bait, save money, and save face?”

After Trump celebrated Colbert’s cancellation and called him untalented, the comedian responded, “How dare you, Sir. Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? Go fuck yourself!”
