Frank Luntz Torches ‘Ineffective’ Trump Over Lack of Discipline on CNN: ‘It’s the Candidate’

Pollster and political strategist Frank Luntz torched Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over his lack of discipline on CNN Tuesday afternoon, praising his campaign while declaring that “it’s the candidate that’s problematic.”

Anchor Boris Sanchez kicked off the conversation by bringing up Trump’s stemwinder of an interview with Elon Musk the previous night.

“I want to start with Donald Trump taking to X with Elon Musk. The campaign says they were seeking to engage these nontraditional voters, something that’s been a focus for the Trump team these first time or low propensity voters,” began Sanchez. “How much do you think that demographic can make a difference in November?”

“It’s significant, it’s what he did in 2016. It’s what campaigns that have been successful over the last decade have done, bringing new people into the electoral pool,” began Luntz. “It’s difficult because there’s a reason why they haven’t voted. Either they don’t care or they don’t like anybody, or they don’t see that it impacts them in a personal way.”

“I commend the Trump campaign,” he continued. “It’s the candidate that’s problematic.”

“The candidate who can’t stick to issues like inflation or immigration, can’t stick to policies that the public supports, that instead he has to deliver attacks against a president who’s not running against him. What people think of Joe Biden has no impact on, on Kamala Harris. And it’s actually damaging Trump’s efforts right now at a time when the nation is so evenly polarized, so hostile to each other,” argued Luntz before concluding “So yes, it is a very effective strategy and adding to the voter pool and increasing the opportunity to win votes. But it’s very ineffective when you’re communicating to the public on things that they don’t care about or even find offensive.”
