Greg Gutfeld Beats All of Cable News With Younger Viewers in First Quarter of 2024

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld led all of cable news with younger viewers in the first quarter of 2024 — a first for his prime time program Gutfeld!
Gutfeld, whose eponymous show is a self-styled mix of late-night political satire and a news-focused panel discussion, averaged over 304,000 nightly viewers in the key 25-54 age demographic most sought after by advertisers.
Jesse Watters, Gutfeld’s co-host on The Five (the top-rated show in cable news in terms of total viewers), landed in second place in the demo for the quarter with 284,000 viewers. The Five, Hannity, and The Ingraham Angle rounded out the top five shows in the demo on all of cable news. The top-rated non-Fox News program in the demo was the 9 p.m. hour on MSNBC, in which Rachel Maddow hosts on Mondays and Alex Wagner helms for the rest of the week, which brought in 153,000 average demo viewers.
Gutfeld’s dominance among younger television viewers extended beyond cable news as he beat all but two of his late-night rivals on broadcast TV, which reaches into far more homes in the country.
Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and The Daily Show all trailed Gutfeld in the demo, while Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon topped him with 344,000 and 321,000 demo viewers – respectively. Gutfeld does sweep all of his late-night competition in terms of total viewers, having averaged 2.2 million for the quarter, while Colbert landed at second just shy of 2 million average viewers. Gutfeld! does have a time slot advantage over most late-night programs, however, as it airs simultaneously across the country from New York City at 10 p.m. — meaning it airs at 7 p.m. on the West Coast. The traditional late night shows all air after 11 p.m.
Jon Stewart’s February return to The Daily Show on Monday nights proved an immediate ratings success, bringing the program its most viewers in six years. The program’s ratings fell to earth though as his March 26th show brought in only 849,000 total viewers and 256,000 viewers in the demo.
