Gretchen Whitmer Addresses Viral Photo Of Her Trying to Hide at Trump Oval Office Meeting: ‘That’s All It Was’

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) addressed her viral Oval Office moment from last week while speaking to the Detroit Economic Club on Monday.

Fox News Bill Melugin introduced the topic on America Reports, saying, “We saw that viral picture of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer the other day in the Oval Office. Hard to believe this was real when it first came out, but she’s hiding her face. She apparently just addressed this earlier this morning saying she regrets the incident. Let’s take a listen.”

“How was Washington?” the moderator asks Whitmer in Detroit.

The clip then cuts to Whitmer addressing the photo, saying, “What was going through your mind at that moment? And it was, I don’t want my picture taken. That’s all it was. I kind of wish I hadn’t put my folder up in front of my face, but whatever. You know, I was there. I mean, I just wrote a book about learning to laugh at yourself, so I’m pretty good at it. And we all make, you know, we all have our moments.”

Melugin then turned to Fox contributor Joe Concha for his take, “Joe, photos can follow around politicians for years. We saw what happened with Gavin Newsom in the French Laundry. She probably has higher political aspirations. Do you think this is going to stick around with her?”

“As in presidential aspirations 2028, the old saying is pain is temporary, but film is forever, and that will follow her around. I don’t know what she was expecting exactly, the governor, when she said, ‘Oh, I didn’t want my picture taken.’ You were in the Oval Office,” he joked, adding:

There tend to be photographers and reporters that are there, and the fact that she held up her, held that up in front of her, she could take some lessons from Bill Maher, who over this past weekend just had Steve Bannon on, met with Donald Trump last week, actually had some favorable, gracious things to say about him, and Maher has been on the air for 25 years because he has the ability to listen to the other side and have civil debates. Democrats, by going down this resistance route, they don’t look like serious people right now, and that’s why one poll out just last week shows that the Democratic party is pulling a 21% approval.
