Harry Reid Partly Blames Russian Invasion on GOP Obstruction

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took to the Senate floor Monday to issue partial blame to Republican “obstructionism” for the Russian annexation of Crimea last weak, saying GOP senators blocking legislation to impose sanctions on Russia sent a “very weak message” and may have influenced Russia’s decision.

Reid took a swipe at Republicans not showing “respect for the president… when he’s overseas,” and told his GOP colleagues they could think about “how their obstruction affects our great country’s national security.” He basically intimated that Republicans blocking the legislation may have emboldened Vladimir Putin.

“It’s impossible to know whether events would have unfolded differently if the United States had responded to this Russian aggression with a strong unified voice, which we did not do. When a few extreme Republicans blocked action on this robust bill… it sends a very weak message to the Russians that we’ll work on this later, we won’t do it now.”
