House Democrat Tells Fox His Party Has ‘Fallen Out of Touch With Most Americans’

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) admitted during a Fox News appearance that his own party has “fallen out of touch with most Americans.”

Moulton joined Fox’s Bill Hemmer on Wednesday and Hemmer asked how the lawmaker thinks the Democratic Party can “rebrand” during President Donald Trump’s administration. Moulton argued Democrats ignored issues like the southern border and inflation during the 2024 presidential election, and he said friends have told him they feel Democrats are so “out of touch” that they’re willing to vote for Trump even if they think he’s “nuts.”

Moulton said:

“A lot of people think that you hear from Democrats and they get a lot of preaching, a lot of talking down. Sometimes we have the facts but it is the way we come across that really turns people off. I heard from a lot of people, friends of mine before this election, including guys I had served with in the Marines who said look, I know Trump is immoral and nuts but you guys are so out of touch.”

Moulton pushed back on Democratic strategist James Carville’s recent argument that Democrats should “play possum” and let the Trump administration collapse, which he told Mediaite founder Dan Abrams he believes will happen in a matter of weeks.

Moulton argued Democrats need to show they “can change” and contrast Trump’s actions, as well as the sweeping cuts Elon Musk is making through DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).

Moulton said:

“There are some Democrats right now like James Carville who think we should just sit back and kind of let Republicans self-destruct. Trump’s approval ratings are going down. Doge with Elon Musk is hugely unpopular. You talked about the IRS scandal. Elon Musk is plowing through people’s private data now. I don’t agree we should sit back. We have to show leadership. Show a way forward and show Americans we’re willing to change. We lost an election and fallen out of touch with the majority of Americans. We need to show we’re willing to change and listen and we will make a positive difference in your lives.”

Moulton added he doesn’t agree Democrats should step back because “that’s not leadership.” The party is though, according to the lawmaker, “out of touch with most Americans” based on the election results.

The congressman said:

“I don’t agree that we should just step back, I think we’ve got to show leadership, show a way forward, and show Americans that we’re actually willing to change. We lost an election across the board, so by definition we’ve fallen out of touch with the majority of Americans. We need to show that we’re willing to change, we’re willing to listen, and we’re going to make a positive difference in your lives.”
