‘How Would They Have Covered Nuremberg?’ Stephen Colbert Mocks Chipper Fox News Headline About Trump’s MSG Rally
Stephen Colbert started his show on Monday by covering the coverage of former President Donald Trump’s controversial rally at Madison Square Garden, which featured a panel of speakers who unleashed a stream of offensive and racist comments.
During his monologue on The Late Show, Colbert kicked off the Trump part of the segment by announcing that “the reviews are in” on the MSG rally, which has drawn comparisons to the 1939 rally held by pro-Nazi Americans at the same venue. He then read off some of the headlines from the news coverage of the rally, stopping a bit short when he got to one network’s “one of these thing is not like the other” headline:
Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden, and the reviews are in!
CNN says: “Trump unveils the most extreme closing argument in modern presidential history.”
The Independent says: “Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally was an orgy of fascism.”
The New York Times: “Trump at the Garden: A Closing Carnival of Grievances, Misogyny and Racism.”
And Fox News: “Trump, powerhouse guests rock packed MSG with historic rally.”
As the audience laughed, Colbert continued:
Wow! How would they have covered Nuremberg? “High-five enthusiasts thrilled by superstar Austrian painter’s tiny mustache!”
