HuffPost’s Lydia Polgreen: Trump’s ‘Tweeting About This Storm as If It Was a Reality Show’ Unfolding
Huffington Post editor in chief Lydia Polgreen appeared on CNN’s Reliable Sources this morning and said that President Trump‘s tweets about Hurricane Harvey are “tonally” off.
President Trump has been tweeting about hurricane response efforts, including some tweets talking up how experts have been describing the severity of the storm:
Great coordination between agencies at all levels of government. Continuing rains and flash floods are being dealt with. Thousands rescued.

Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen. Good news is that we have great talent on the ground.

I will be going to Texas as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption. The focus must be life and safety.

Wow – Now experts are calling #Harvey a once in 500 year flood! We have an all out effort going, and going well!

Going to a Cabinet Meeting (tele-conference) at 11:00 A.M. on #Harvey. Even experts have said they've never seen one like this!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 27, 2017
Major rescue operations underway!

Brian Stelter asked if Trump’s tweets are “shiny objects.” Polgreen brought up Rex Tillerson‘s stunning comments about the President’s values before making this observation:
“I think about the events of the past couple of weeks, where you had a President essentially decline to show any kind of moral leadership in the wake of Charlottesville, a President who’s tweeting about this storm as if it was a reality show that was unfolding. ‘Wow!'”
“His tweets,” she continued, “seem tonally completely outside of what you would expect from a President dealing with a disaster.”
What's extraordinary is how Trump acts like a retiree watching cable news, not the most powerful man in the world. Wow! https://t.co/P7gy2wrKwp
