‘It’s True!’ NBC Reporter Informs Incredulous Chris Hayes That RFK Jr. Doesn’t Believe the Polio Vaccine Eradicated Polio

Chris Hayes was thrown for a loop on Friday night when he was informed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. does not believe the polio vaccine was responsible for eradicating polio in the United States.

President-elect Donald Trump nominated Kennedy as Secretary of Health and Human Services, which has caused concern among health professionals and just plain people who believe vaccines work. Kennedy has spoken out against vaccines, but insists he is not an anti-vaxxer.

On Friday, The New York Times reported that Aaron Siri, an attorney who is helping Kennedy choose public health officials in the next administration, has petitioned the Food and Drug Administration to revoke its approval of the polio vaccine, which led to the eradication of the disease beginning in the 1950s. Siri has also sought to stop the distribution of 13 other vaccines.

NBC News reporter Brandy Zadrozny joined Hayes on MSNBC’s All In to discuss Siri and explained the depths of Kennedy’s anti-vaxx sentiment.

“It’s all of the vaccines,” she said. “There is not a vaccine that Kennedy thinks is safe or effective. These folks don’t believe the polio vaccine actually stopped polio.”

Hayes, who was off camera, presumably had some sort of physical reaction expressing incredulity.

“It’s true!” Zadrozny insisted. “They think it is a combination of better sewage, of refrigeration.”

“No,” the host reacted in disbelief.

“Yes, absolutely,” she went on. “They are polio truthers That is what they believe. Robert F. Kennedy has told me this. And so, absolutely, they wanna get rid of all of them. And not just get rid of all of them. They say, ‘We don’t want to get rid of any vaccines. We just want to test them.'”

Hayes seized on the comment and noted that Kennedy and his anti-vaxx allies have insisted that the vaccines should be studied.

“I think we’ve studied it pretty damn well,” he said. ”
